Capital Partners for Education Receives $25,000 from the Walmart Foundation to Support its 1:1 Mentoring and College Success Program
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Capital Partners for Education (CPE) today announced that it has received a $25,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation to help fund its one-on-one mentoring, academic support services, and professional development programs to support over 400 low-income students, placing them on the path to high school graduation, college completion, and sustainable careers.
The grant – which was given to the organization through the Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program – will support CPE’s goal of providing low-income high school and college students who are in the academic middle and for whom, with one-to-one mentoring provided by college educated volunteers and interventions provided by CPE staff, college access and completion can become a reality. Eighty percent (80%) of CPE students are first-generation to college, ninety-nine percent (99%) are students of color, and one hundred percent (100%) of our students are considered low-income with a median income of $32,000 for a family of four in 2015.
“The Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program is helping CPE expand our program, so we can continue to mentor and support more deserving students to and through college, for that we are truly grateful”, said Khari Brown, Chief Executive Officer at CPE.
The contribution to CPE was made possible through the Walmart Foundation’s Washington, DC State Giving Program. Through this program, the Walmart Foundation supports organizations that create opportunities so people can live better. The Walmart Foundation State Giving Program strives to award grants that have a long-lasting, positive impact on communities across the U.S.
