Throughout all four years of high school, CPE helps each low-income student tackle the social and academic barriers they face by building an individualized toolkit of resources and community support. Working with parents, mentors, donors, alumni, and schools, CPE delivers key resources that even the best high schools simply cannot.

CPE Student Profile

Low Income: On average, less than $29,390 for a household of four

Single Parent Homes: 68% live with a single parent or other relative/guardian.

Ethnicity: 74% Black, 21% Hispanic, 2% Asian, 3% Other

DC Metro Residents: DC (63%), Prince George’s County (27%), Montgomery County (7%), Alexandria (3%)

Motivated: Since 2005, 100% of CPE graduates enrolled in college.

Parents: A critical influence in students’ lives, parents help their children complete applications to CPE and our partner schools, and they participate in admissions interviews with CPE. They also help ensure attendance at CPE events such as college prep workshops, community service, and social gatherings. Lastly, they support the development of their child’s relationship with their mentor.

Mentors: Caring adults who serve as role models, mentors offer guidance and act as a sounding board, help their student navigate the challenges of high school, supporting them every step of the way.

Alumni: Former CPE students serve as inspiration to current CPE students, give back to the community through CPE, and often become mentors.

School & Community Partners: CPE works with great private and charter schools, along with other community organizations that provide various training and support services, all of which are key to our students’ success.

Donors: You provide the financial support that allows CPE to serve current students and expand to reach many more deserving young people in the DC area who dream of college and a brighter future.

CPE Staff: We are passionate about helping our students succeed by facilitating relationships among the entire CPE community and providing the right support to help see each CPE student graduate.
